Drying kerosene

Kerosene specifications requiered a deep drying of kerosene with briquettes of calcium chloride or caustic soda or caustic potash

Water in hydrocarbons is an important quality specification in the utilization as fuel in engine and corrosion  problems in plant. To avoid water in kerosene, salt dryer are largely used. The major limitation of rock salt is that it will remove only insoluble or free water from hydrocarbons.
water solubility

When temperature decreases during transportation or storage, soluble water condenses into fine droplets and haze appears in hydrocarbons.
The hygroscopic properties of calcium chloride nuts remove soluble and unsoluble water to avoid haze problems in hydrocarbons.
